Physical Exams

Complete examinations on dogs, cats, domestic birds, chickens, swans, geese, rats, mice, guinea pigs, ferrets, flying squirrels, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, porcupines, and pet pigs.

What can a pet owner expect from the doctors at CVH during their pet's exam? First step is to obtain some history on your pet. Basic questions of nutrition, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, behavioral changes.

Vaccinations

Individualized for your feline, canine, ferret or pig.

Why should I vaccinate my pet?

Vaccines protect your pet from several highly contagious diseases like parvo, distemper, and respiratory diseases.  Also, vaccines protect against transmissible diseases like Rabies and Leptospirosis that pose a risk to humans.

How do vaccines work?

Vaccines contain killed or modified live forms of viruses or bacteria. They stimulate production of protective antibodies in healthy animals that neutralize the virus or bacteria if the animal is later exposed.

Why do puppies/kittens need a series of vaccines?

Maternal antibodies decline during the first 4 months of life and eventually disappear.  The series of vaccines increases likelihood of long-term protection from vaccination as soon as maternal antibody levels have declined below protective levels.  Vaccinating pregnant dogs should be avoided. Vaccinate before breeding.

Are there risks?

Most pets experience no adverse effects.  A small number may experience lethargy and a decrease in appetite for about 24 hours.  In rare cases a pet may experience a life threatening allergic reaction which can be treated successfully if immediate treatment is administered.

Anesthesia & Pain Management

Our patients are given treatment for pain where appropriate: we use nerve blocks, sedation, injectable or gas anesthetics. Multiple medication forms like injections, tablets, slow-release patches when combined with conventional treatments provide smooth, continuous pain control. Monitoring our patients' temperature, pulse oximetry (blood oxygen), blood pressure, heart rate and level of anesthesia insures safety while in our care.

Radiology & Ultrasound

Central Veterinary Hospital is equipped with onsite x-ray and ultrasound technology to aid in the diagnosis of your pet’s medical condition. Often it only takes minutes to view and interpret your pets results.

Laser Therapy

Does your pet have arthritis, chronic pain or a wound that is not healing? If you answered yes, then laser therapy may be just what the doctor ordered! Laser therapy is a non-surgical procedure that does not require the use of drugs. It works by producing wavelengths of light energy that enter damaged cells and stimulate an increase in blood flow, thereby speeding up the healing process and essentially helping the body to help itself. Laser therapy can help reduce pain and inflammation in a fraction of the time and with no side effects or risks. Most pets begin to feel better in less than 12 to 24 hours! Simply ask anyone on our staff if you are interested in trying it out for your pet! The first treatment is on us. Yes, it's free!

Dentistry

Your pet’s dental health is more important than you may realize. Dangerous infections can result from large buildups of tartar, gingivitis, an abscessed tooth or problems with your pet’s gums. The mouth is the portal to the rest of the body and as such it can act as a conduit for infection to spread to the digestive system, lungs, heart, and other major internal organs. Central Veterinary Hospital offers a designated dental suite that is fully equipped with x-ray technology, ultrasonic scaler, polisher, and drill. Our dental expert, Dr. St. Sir, is here to help your pet with all of his or her dental needs. To learn more about your pet’s dental health and future care, call us today to schedule a consultation with Dr. St. Sir.

Isolation Care

The installation of a new isolation ward for sick patients is one of the highlights of our recent upgrades to the hospital. This new facility greatly enhances the level of care already being provided to our very ill patients. In addition to the new ward's separate supply banks, Central Veterinary Hospital is now fully equipped with a separate ventilation and evacuation system that enables us to prevent the spread of infectious disease within the hospital.

 Laboratory

Central Veterinary Hospital is equipped with in house laboratory equipment so our doctors have results available for immediate interpretation. For cases that require more specific diagnostic testing, we outsource to one of the nation’s leading laboratories, enabling our Doctors to work directly with specialty doctors in order to provide complete comprehensive testing and assessment.

Pharmacy

Central Veterinary Hospital maintains a fully stocked pharmacy that allows our Doctors instant access to everything they need to provide the highest level of veterinary care to your pet immediately. We are also able to special-order medications in palatable forms and flavors for finicky patients. Unlike on-line/discount "pharmacies" we stand behind all our products and can be reached for personal queries about the medications side effects or any problems you may encounter, six days a week. This even means speaking directly to the veterinarian prescribing it! We also monitor drug levels with routine blood tests to ensure your pet is getting appropriate therapeutic and safe levels of drugs limiting risks to internal organs.

Prescription & Maintenance Diets

Nutrition is crucial to your pets overall health and wellness. Ask our knowledgeable staff about pet food information, health care facts and products that can help you to enrich your pet’s life. Central Veterinary Hospital carries several specially selected premium pet foods, including Hills Pet Nutrition, Royal Canin and Purina Diets.
